Massive Cost Savings to Meres and Mosses Housing in North Shropshire
An innovative low cost central heating installation partnership in Shropshire is saving money. The cost of delivering replacement central heating systems to Meres and Mosses properties across North Shropshire has drastically reduced thanks to an innovative and audacious bid by Shropshire Gas, named by the company as ‘Pilot Heat’.
Shropshire Gas worked with Meres and Mosses Housing Association (MMHA) to reassess the pricing structure of its central heating installations as charged by the previous contractor, so savings could be utilised for reinvestment in the housing stock. Initially launched as a 12 month trial the new practice named by Shropshire Gas as ‘Pilot Heat’, saw the contract move to a set price list for jobs to a scheme based on time and resources used. The Shropshire Gas (Telford) ‘Pilot Heat’ Scheme has now been extended for a second year to run in conjunction with the Shropshire Gas Meres and Mosses Responsive Repairs and Heating Maintenance Contract.
Shropshire Gas Director Malcolm Carter based at Tyrley, Market Drayton said, “The Meres and Mosses heating contract includes provisions that require continuous improvements in the way the service is delivered. This trial has proved that the change in our payment plan achieves this. Customer feedback forms have shown that satisfaction for the work completed scores highly at 9.9 out of 10 and on average the price per job has dropped significantly from the previous heating contractor.” Adding, “MMHA and Shropshire Gas Heating Services have worked closely together to improve the energy efficient heating systems provided to residents. Developing innovative and efficient ways of working has allowed us to not only reduce our operating costs, but to pass these savings on to MMHA, which can then be reinvested back into properties. The Shropshire Gas ‘Pilot Heat’ scheme allows opportunities for improvements to be identified ensuring value for money from the services we provide.”
