Work experience for heating and plumbing students
Shropshire Gas has welcomed local students on to work experience placements within its central heating installations and boiler servicing teams. The students will gain practical experience during the placement and could also earn the opportunity to formalise their training through Shrewsbury and Telford’s leading gas, oil and multi fuel maintenance and heating Installation Company.
The successful intakes were selected after an interview with Directors Jim Walton and Thomas Murray at Shropshire Gas Market Drayton. The trainees will gain hands-on experience designed to supplement their learning at college. They will work from Shropshire Gas Market Drayton depot and install for Shropshire residents gas, oil and multi fuel heating. The new Shropshire Gas heating students will learn and receive guidance from their assigned mentors, while being rotated between a number of heating engineers to maximise their experience of different techniques and working methods. Shropshire Gas, the main competitor to British Gas central heating installs in Shropshire, has worked closely with Shrewsbury College in the past and taken on a number of apprentices over the years. However, this is the first time it has provided opportunities to local students as work experience; if successful the scheme could be rolled out to the Shropshire Gas Telford Contracts. Shropshire Gas operations director, Jim Walton said: “By working closely with Shrewsbury College we are helping educate local students with the right skills and qualifications for successful careers. It also gives our Shropshire Heat company the opportunity to source the best young talent from the local area and continuously improve our service offering.”
